Dental Implants Brisbane and Toowong and Cost of Dental Implants

With the ever-increasing availability of dental implants and the cost structures of materials and methods making this kind of dental procedure more accessible, I thought I would discuss the procedure and rough costs as there is still a lot of confusion.

The rough cost of a single dental implant and crown carried out by a well-trained general dentist surgeon is approximately $4000-$6000 from start to finish using propriety materials and well know methods and strong crown and bridge materials. If timed properly these costs can be spread across two health fund years in Australia in help reduce the out of pocket expenses.

Methods for placing implants:

  • Immediate dental implant placement
  • Delayed immediate dental implant placement
  • Delayed dental implant placement.

Immediate dental implant placement;

This is when the tooth is extracted and the implant is placed at the same time with bone grafting material added into the bone voids left around the dental implant and then a dental membrane is placed over the top of the grafting material.

Delayed immediate dental implant placement;

The tooth is extracted and tissue healing is allowed to occur 3-8 weeks and then the dental implant is placed.  Bone grafting is often still required.

Delayed dental implant placement;

This is when the tooth is extracted and it is left to heal for 3-6 months and then the dental implant is placed.  Ideally the practitioner who has removed the tooth should carry out what is call a socket preservation.  This is where bone grafting material has been placed into the socket where the tooth was removed and then guided tissue regeneration has then been carried out to cover the graft.  This will encourage a greater amount of bone to be maintained during healing and surgery should be easier.

Dr Adam Alford is of the opinion that the immediate and delayed immediate dental implant placement is preferrable due to the tissue quality and bone volume being maintained better and less patient burnout occurring from when then dental implant is placed to when the tooth is returned to the mouth and fixed to the top of the implant.

Dr Adam Alford will generally speak to patients about the length of time it takes from extraction to having a tooth like structure returned to the mouth being 6-8 months.

General Procedures Carried out for Dental Implants with Dr Adam Alford with an uncomplicated case.

Dr Adam Alford has been carrying out dental implant surgery for approximately 15 years now and still believes in the KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid).  There are many different methods of placement and restoration (including immediate loading with a temporary crown).  It is Dr Adam Alford’s experience though that rushing and trying to speed up the process for having the tooth like structure returned to the oral cavity only increases the risk of fail on the dental implant.  Then you start again.

  1. Tooth Extracted, Dental Implant placed, and bone grafting carried out where necessary, Dr Adam Alford carries out 2 stage surgery in order to be able to control the outside tissue and thicken this tissue on exposure for greater long term health of the dental implant and dental implant crown and abutment.
  2. Dental Implant and bone graft left to heal for the 3-4 months.
  3. Dental Implant and graft are then exposed just at the top tissue and the tissue is manipulated and moved as a tissue graft, apically repositioned tissue, inverted flap onto the outside.
  4. Tissue is left to heal with a tissue healing cap in place for 3-4 weeks.
  5. An impression or scan is taken for the dental lab to manufacture the crown. Dr Adam Alford has in the past used in house technology to mill and stain and manufacture crowns, but technology and techniques have moved on in his opinion and the dental labs now make higher quality, better fitting crown and bridge work than the in house manufactured chairside technology.
  6. Dental implant crown and bridgework are fitted 2-3 weeks later and tissue conditioning and manipulation is carried out again and left to heal for a period of time.
  7. Final tighten and torquing of the implant and sealing of the access hole in the top of the implant crown.

Regular maintenance checkups and cleans at least every 6 months is necessary fro the health and maintenance for dental implants.

Understanding Dental Implants: Costs and Procedures in Brisbane and Toowong

As dental implant treatments become increasingly accessible, many patients still have questions about the procedures and costs involved. The price for a single dental implant, including the crown, typically ranges from $4,000 to $6,000 when performed by a skilled general dentist using high-quality materials and trusted techniques. Additionally, Australian health funds may allow you to spread these costs over two calendar years to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses.

There are various methods for placing dental implants:

  • Immediate Implant Placement: The implant is placed directly after the tooth extraction, followed by bone grafting material to fill the gaps, which is then covered with a membrane.
  • Delayed Immediate Implant Placement: The tooth is extracted, and after 3 to 8 weeks of healing, the implant is placed. Bone grafting may still be needed.
  • Delayed Implant Placement: After tooth extraction, the area is allowed to heal for 3 to 6 months before the implant is placed. Socket preservation and guided tissue regeneration are often used to maintain bone volume for a better long-term result.

Dr. Adam Alford prefers the immediate and delayed immediate placement methods, as they help preserve tissue quality and bone volume, leading to a quicker recovery and better long-term results. He typically informs patients that the entire process—from extraction to having a fully restored tooth—can take around 6 to 8 months.

Dental Implants: Costs and Treatment Options in Brisbane
Dental implants are an increasingly popular choice for tooth replacement, and advancements in materials and techniques have made them more affordable. On average, the cost of a single dental implant and crown ranges between $4,000 and $6,000 when performed by a qualified general dentist using high-quality materials. Australian health funds often allow patients to distribute costs over two years, which can help reduce out-of-pocket expenses.

There are three primary approaches to dental implant placement:

  1. Immediate Placement: The tooth is extracted, and the implant is placed at the same time. Bone grafting is used to fill any gaps around the implant.
  2. Delayed Immediate Placement: After extraction, a healing period of 3 to 8 weeks is allowed before the implant is placed, with bone grafting still a common step.
  3. Delayed Placement: The extraction site is allowed to heal for 3 to 6 months before the implant is placed. Bone grafting and socket preservation techniques help improve the outcome by maintaining bone density.

Dr. Adam Alford advocates for immediate and delayed immediate implant placement due to their ability to preserve tissue and bone. This leads to a more predictable and quicker recovery process, with full restoration typically taking around 6 to 8 months.

Exploring the Costs and Procedures of Dental Implants in Brisbane and Toowong
Dental implants are becoming more common as their accessibility and affordability improve. A single implant and crown, when carried out by an experienced general dentist, typically costs between $4,000 and $6,000. By timing the procedure correctly, Australians can sometimes spread costs across two health fund years to ease out-of-pocket expenses.

There are three main methods for implant placement:

  • Immediate Placement: The implant is inserted immediately after tooth extraction, with bone grafting material used to fill any empty spaces.
  • Delayed Immediate Placement: After extraction, the area heals for 3 to 8 weeks before the implant is placed. Bone grafting is often needed to support the implant.
  • Delayed Placement: The extraction site is left to heal for 3 to 6 months, with socket preservation techniques used to help maintain bone volume.

Dr. Adam Alford believes that immediate and delayed immediate placement are optimal, as they help maintain tissue quality and volume, resulting in better outcomes and shorter recovery times. He informs patients that the full treatment, from extraction to having the tooth restored, can take 6 to 8 months.
