GENERAL AND FAMILY DENTAL CARE

General Dental Care

General Care indicates that we cover and treat all aspects of dentistry. This includes simple fillings, Ceramic Fillings, Crowns, Bridges, Porcelain Veneers, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implants and General Preventative Care.

However, certain treatments require specialist care.  If this applies, we are happy to refer our patients to our trusted specialists because this enables them to receive the highest quality care possible. This is the most important outcome.

Family Dental Care

Family Care indicates that we enjoy treating the whole family unit.  The Dental Health Team at the MLC Centre Dental Surgery enjoys not only treating adults but also children.  We believe in trying to see children early, initially at 2-3 years of age.  This would involve coming along with Mum or Dad, to watch their visit and play in the surgery and maybe go for a ride in the chair.  We also like to inform Mum and Dad about appropriate fluoride use and preventative measures at an early age.

Slowly, when the child is ready, they may want to roar like a lion for mum or dad and the dentist, so we can count the teeth together.  Ideally, by about 4 years of age, we are able to actually have a good look around in the child’s mouth and diagnose any issues.  We try to give written information to the parents, along with games for the children to play, relating to teeth and good oral health.  In this age of technology, we also like to advise of websites that Mum and Dad can look at with their children, to help explain dental visits.  These often have animated sequences which help the child identify with a visit to the dentist.

Our main goal with children is to have fun, desensitise them to the dentist and encourage and teach them how to best look after their own teeth.  As part of trying to have fun with the children, Dr Alford has carried out talks in schools and kindergartens, both in Sydney and London, so that the children can meet and play with a dentist outside the scary dental surgery.
